Following the reopening of its borders last year, the Maldives set a goal of achieving 1.3 million tourist arrivals in 2021; considering the statistics revealed by the Ministry of Tourism, the country is on track to achieving this number. As per the numbers, from 1st January to 26th September this year, a total of 858,711 travelers have already visited the Maldives. Luxury resort stays are a popular option amongst tourists with properties such as Atmosphere Kanifushi offering accommodation with strict hygiene and health protocols in place.
Another noteworthy achievement was that September 2021 marked the fourth month in succession that the Maldives achieved over 100,000 arrivals. A testament to the country’s resilience and effectiveness of safely restarting tourism, the arrivals in September was a 2.5% increase when compared to the same period in 2019 before the pandemic.
