Another key highlight for its tourism industry, the Maldives has sailed past the milestone figure of welcoming one million international travellers this year. On 16th July 2023, this Indian Ocean nation recorded its one-millionth foreign visitor, and it has continued to see many more arriving at its shores. According to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, by 24 September 2023, a total of 1,331,310 tourists had arrived here; this was not only more than what was recorded for the same period last year, but also more than the entire arrivals number in 2021 which stood at 1,321,937.
At the time, travellers were holidaying in the country for seven days on average, while the daily arrivals average was 5,008. Russia was the leading source market for tourism at the time, followed by India and China respectively. These tourists and others from around the world have been enjoying the chance to visit this destination once more and stay at budget-friendly resorts in Maldives. Such properties on private islands include the likes of Embudu Village which can look forward to more visitors in the months to come as the winter holiday season draws near.
