Tourism Fee to be Introduced in Thailand – Money Partly for Traveller Insurance

As highlighted in a 15th January 2021 online article by the Bangkok Post, Thailand is set to introduce a small tourism fee this year for those visiting the country; this was announced by Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the Tourism and Sports Minister who stated that foreign travellers will have to pay 300 baht (around US$10) as part of this fee; from this, 34 baht will be set aside for insurance coverage for visitors, while the remaining will be used for managing and developing local tourist destinations.

This fee was initially set to be implemented last year but was put on hold with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be hoped that this will soon be brought under control globally, which will lead to travellers once more arriving in numbers; from urban adventures while at Bangkok city suites of properties the likes of Pathumwan Princess Hotel to coastal getaways on islands such as Koh Samui, the country has many exciting experiences in store.
