Tourism Revenue in Tunisia on the Rise – Country Targets 8.5 Million Arrivals in 2023

Tunisia is steadily getting its tourism industry back on track since the pandemic and following an impressive increase in tourism revenue for the first quarter of this year, has continued the positive trend. In the first five months of 2023, the country recorded tourism receipts amounting to approximately TND 1.7 billion which was an increase of 57.7% when compared with the same period last year; this was put in the spotlight on the ZAWYA.com news website in June as it quoted figures from the Central Bank of Tunisia.

This optimistic prospect for tourism was echoed on the Reuters news website on 15th June 2023 when it revealed that tourist arrivals were nearing those of pre-pandemic times; also highlighted was that the country was expecting around 8.5 million tourists this year which would be 90% of the figure recorded in 2019 before the global pandemic hit. It is no surprise that since international travel restarted, tourists are showing great interest in visiting Tunisia; sightseeing at attractions like ancient Carthage and the historical medina continue to be popular while getaways at luxury beachside properties such as The Residence Tunis are in demand as well.
