The undiscovered ecosystems of the Maldivian underwater world had been sparking the interest of scientists, as reported on CNN on the 31st of August 2022. While tourists flock to Maldives resort rooms and suites for a slice of luxurious relaxation, the mystery of the islands travels beyond laid-back holidays in lodgings like Hard Rock Hotel Maldives. Therefore, the Maldivian Government in partnership with NEKTON, a UK marine research institute have launched an expedition to explore and study the ocean.

This research will be conducted 30 metres below the usual surface level and will reach as far as 1,000 metres at the bottom of the sea using high-tech submarines. As the island nation continues to face the risk of the global climate crisis, unravelling the mysteries of the Maldivian seas will assist its survival against any adverse effects of these environmental challenges.
