As COVID-19 vaccination drives take place across the world, the popularity of ‘vaccine passports’ has gained momentum; simply put, this is a digital vaccination document issued to fully vaccinated travellers; it can be used to gain entry into certain countries that ideally, will not require those who have it to undergo mandatory quarantine. The current development is for such vaccination documents to be linked to a smartphone app that travellers can use, while it can be easily checked by relevant authorities via QR codes.
Such a system could help to get international travel back on track including visiting diverse destinations and staying at safe hotels in Asia Pacific such as those of the Park Hotel Group. In June this year, the European Union started testing such a digital vaccination document, while Japan and China are working on their own versions too; however, there will also be a need for a central international system where such vaccine passports can be checked or verified at different border points across the world.
