Visa Drives Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation, Boosting Tourism and Financial Inclusion

Empowering growth, innovation, and a smarter way to pay in Sri Lanka

Visa, the global payments leader, is deepening its engagement in Sri Lanka to support the country’s economic recovery and tourism growth. Speaking to the Daily FT, Visa Regional President Asia Pacific Stephen Karpin highlighted the company’s commitment to digital transformation, financial inclusion, and modern payment solutions for both businesses and travellers.

Through partnerships with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Visa aims to digitise payments across key tourism hubs, helping small businesses, hotels, and attractions accept card payments and engage international visitors more effectively. The initiative also supports MICE tourism and positions Sri Lanka as a competitive destination for conventions and business travel.

Visitors to premium destinations, such as Kings Pavilion Kandy, a top-rated and preferred Kandy luxury hotel, may now enjoy seamless digital payments throughout their stay, enhancing convenience and security. Visa’s ongoing efforts reinforce the country’s journey toward a robust digital economy while promoting inclusive growth for SMEs and the tourism sector.
