2023 Was A Stellar Year for Zanzibar Tourism – More Opportunities to be Targeted in 2024

The tourism industry in Zanzibar went from strength to strength in 2023 as it saw visitor numbers surge. In October last year, this semi-autonomous archipelago in the Indian Ocean went passed the one million mark in terms of local and foreign tourists welcomed in 2023. This was a significant milestone since it easily surpassed the initial target of achieving 850,000 yearly arrivals by 2025. A month later, there was even more cause for celebration as statistics revealed that in November, this destination had achieved a 4.2% increase in tourists when compared with October 2023.

In more recent news, the government of Zanzibar is going to be focusing on different types of tourism to attract more travellers in 2024 and beyond. This was brought to light on the Tanzanian news website, Daily News (https://dailynews.co.tz/) in January 2024 as it quoted statements made by Mr Simai Mohammed Said, the Minister of Tourism and Heritage. According to the minister, while leisure tourism is well-known, promotion efforts will additionally be made to highlight aspects such as conference tourism, cultural tourism and eco-tourism along with historical sites. Travellers are continuing to plan holidays here at luxury beachside resorts the likes of The Residence Zanzibar where they can enjoy the best of this destination. This includes rewarding things to do in Zanzibar encompassing everything from wildlife encounters and historical discoveries to ocean escapades and cultural experiences.
