On 24th January 2024, the world will celebrate the sixth International Day of Education under the theme “Learning for Lasting Peace.” This day, proclaimed by the United Nations and led by UNESCO, emphasises education as a human right, a public good, and a public responsibility. The 2024 celebrations will focus on the transformative power of education in fostering peace, sustainable development, and human rights.
The International Day of Education 2024 calls for an active commitment to peace through education. UNESCO underscores the importance of empowering learners with not only knowledge but also attitudes, skills and values that will help them become agents of peace. This day is one where education is put in the spotlight at various academic institutions as well. In Sri Lanka, for example, universities such as CINEC Campus remain one of the leading academic providers; it offers recognised marine engineering courses in Sri Lanka as well as qualifications in other fields including technology, logistics, engineering, tourism & hospitality, marketing & branding and more providing quality education for students.
