38 Countries Now Enjoy Visa-free Entry to Sri Lanka – A Key Boost for Local Tourism
Sri Lanka is offering visa-free entry for citizens of 38 countries, as part of a new policy which came into effect from September 2024. This move, previously announced for 35 countries with an implementation date of 1st October, has been accelerated and expanded to include three additional countries.
The introduction of the “one chop system” further streamlines the visa process, mirroring the efficient system used in Singapore. This simplified approach involves a single official stamp or seal on the applicant’s passport, eliminating the need for multiple approvals and procedures. This hassle-free entry is expected to attract more tourists and contribute to Sri Lanka’s tourism growth.
This move is expected to boost arrivals and the island’s tourism authorities remain confident of achieving its 2024 target of welcoming 2.3 million foreign travellers to Sri Lanka. Beach resort options continue to be a popular choice for tourists, especially in areas like Kalpitiya. Properties here such as Dolphin Beach Resort provide the perfect base for visitors to experience everything from coastal bliss and kitesurfing to whale and dolphin watching in the months to come.
