The Maldives Chosen as the Official Island Travel Partner for ITB China 2023

The Maldives is set to have a prominent presence at ITB China 2023, with a dedicated stand featuring 33 co-exhibiting companies in partnership with the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). This initiative aims to facilitate connections between domestic tourism professionals and Maldivian travel trade representatives, fostering new business relationships and exploring opportunities in the Chinese tourism industry for the Maldives. MMPRC will host various on-site activities, including a raffle and sponsorship of the ITB China Customized and Themed Networking Lunch, bringing industry experts, travel trade, media, and stakeholders together. Additionally, a Presentation Hub Showcase is scheduled for September 13, 2023, to provide more information about the Maldives as a destination.

This collaboration is a key component of MMPRC’s strategy to promote the Maldives as a premier tourism destination for Chinese travelers. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, China was the leading source market for Maldives tourism, accounting for 16.7% of incoming arrivals in 2019. Despite the pandemic’s impact, the Maldives is actively working to restore these pre-pandemic arrival figures. MMPRC has initiated various activities, including e-learning campaigns, digital cooperation with Chinese apps, outdoor marketing efforts, joint promotions, familiarization trips, and social media campaigns. This marks the first time in several years that physical promotion activities will be held in China, demonstrating the Maldives’ commitment to its target. This will offer ample opportunities for Maldives beach hotels, such as the popular Velifushi Maldives by Cinnamon to offer excellent services to travellers.
