Sri Lanka Targets Record Indian Tourist Arrivals in 2024: Neighbourhood Solidarity
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry sets its sights on achieving record numbers from its top source market, India. Aiming for 600,000 Indian tourist arrivals in 2024, a significant increase from 2023’s 302,844, Sri Lanka Tourism is launching a multifaceted promotional campaign. This initiative follows a strong performance in January 2024, with Indian tourist arrivals exceeding those of January 2023 by over 100%.
To achieve its ambitious target, Sri Lanka Tourism is deploying a 360-degree marketing campaign encompassing digital, print, and television platforms. The campaign aims to showcase the country’s diverse offerings beyond its well-known beaches, highlighting cultural, religious, culinary, adventure, and wildlife experiences. Furthermore, Sri Lanka is targeting specific segments within the Indian market, including independent travellers (FITs), families, wedding tourism, and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) tourism. Sri Lanka has hotels that are more than capable of hosting such important events, including properties of Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts. To attract Indian film productions, Sri Lanka plans to introduce a single window clearance system by the first quarter of 2024, streamlining the approval process. With a focus on strong regional outreach within India, Sri Lanka Tourism seeks to capitalize on the growing demand from its key source market. This targeted approach aligns with Sri Lanka’s overall goal of welcoming 2.3 million international tourists in 2024, signifying a significant comeback for the nation’s tourism industry.
