Tourism rebounds in Thailand – 20 Million Foreign Tourists in First Seven Months of 2024
Thailand has seen a significant resurgence in its tourism sector, welcoming 20 million foreign tourists between January 1st and July 25th, 2024, marking a 34% increase from last year. This figure represents about half of the total arrivals for the same period before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin credited this surge to several key initiatives, including visa-free travel, increased flight availability, and enhancements to tourist attractions. The visa-free scheme, allowing visitors from 93 countries to stay for up to 60 days, has been particularly impactful, driving record-high arrivals from Taiwan and India staying at furnished apartments in Bangkok. Accommodation options like Modena By Fraser benefited thanks to the increased arrivals.
The majority of visitors during this period came from mainland China, followed by Malaysia, India, and South Korea. Among long-haul travellers, Russia led the pack, followed by the United States, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. The ongoing efforts to boost tourism are expected to further accelerate Thailand’s recovery in the coming months.
