Thailand Plans to Introduce New Tax For Tourists: Boosting Revenue for Better Experiences
Thailand is considering the implementation of a new tourist tax, a proposal that was discontinued in 2021 despite approval from the cabinet. The proposed tax would impose an additional fee of THB 300 with the aim of increasing tourism revenue to at least 3 trillion a year.

According to the country’s new tourism minister Sorawong Thienthong, the revenue gained from the new tax policy will be used to further develop local infrastructure and attractions, and further improve tourist safety. The proposed tax structure, if implemented will impose a fee of THB 300 for air travellers and THB 150 for land and sea travellers. However, exemptions will be made for certain groups including transit passengers, those with diplomatic passports and work permits, and children under two.
As one of the more popular tourist destinations in Asia, the country offers plenty of accommodation options like Travelodge Nimman and plenty of attractions and things to see in Chiang Mai, Thailand. If the proposed tax fee is implemented, the country will be following other nations that have adopted a similar policy including Belgium, France, Spain and Austria.
