Thailand Surpasses 35M Tourists in 2024, Paving the Way for a Blockbuster Travel Year in 2025

Bangkok’s tourism boom rewrites the post-pandemic playbook for global travel.

In December 2024, Bangkok marked a historic achievement as Thailand officially surpassed its target of 35 million international tourist arrivals. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) confirmed that the country generated an impressive 1.8 trillion Baht in tourism revenue — a clear signal of a robust post-pandemic recovery and renewed global interest in Thailand as a top-tier destination.

This success was no accident. A combination of forward-thinking government policies and seamless travel reforms contributed significantly. Visa exemptions for nationals from 93 countries, extended stay periods of up to 60 days, and the removal of TM.6 forms at major border checkpoints helped reduce friction for inbound travellers.

Air connectivity was another key driver. Airlines reopened routes and introduced new ones, boosting total seat capacity to 47 million — a 26% year-on-year increase. In the high season alone, over 311 extra flights were added, opening access from cities like London, Zurich, Vancouver, and Riyadh. This shift made premium riverside locations like Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort even more accessible to long-haul and regional travellers seeking a Bangkok resort that offers both luxury and convenience.

Thailand also leaned into cultural tourism with full force in 2024. Blockbuster events like the Amazing Thailand Countdown, the Maha Songkran World Water Festival, and international concerts drew diverse crowds. The country’s popularity as a filming destination further fuelled inbound interest, particularly from short-haul regions such as Northeast Asia and ASEAN neighbours.

Looking forward, the “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025” promises to build on this momentum. The initiative will spotlight world-class events, sustainable travel, and deeper cultural engagement, aiming to attract 36–39 million tourists and generate up to 2.23 trillion Baht in revenue.
