Maldives Tourism Sees 6% Surge: What’s Fueling the Island Nation’s Rising Popularity? – The Maldives continues to shine on the global travel map

Tourism in the Maldives has seen a 5.8% increase in visitor arrivals compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism. As of the 8th of April 2025, the country welcomed 687,916 tourists, up from 650,404 during the same timeframe in 2024.

Notably, the first eight days of April alone brought in 55,498 travellers — marking a sharp 19.6% rise year-on-year. Among the top source markets are China, the United Kingdom, and Russia, followed closely by Italy and Germany.

Resorts remain the preferred accommodation type, with nearly 70% of visitors choosing island retreats for their stay. Local guesthouses, safari vessels, and boutique hotels make up the remainder. With over 1,100 accommodation options currently in operation — including 175 resorts — the Maldives offers an array of choices for every traveller.

Properties like The Residence Maldives at Dhigurah continue to draw attention for their luxurious pool and beach villas in Maldives, reflecting the broader appeal that keeps visitors returning to the island.
