SLTDA Unlocks 3,000 Acres to Attract Global Investments and Transform Tourism

A bold step towards a sustainable and world-class tourism future for Sri Lanka

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has launched a landmark initiative to release more than 3,000 acres of state-owned land for development, aiming to attract both local and international investors. The move is expected to inject fresh capital into the sector, encourage projects worth between $50 million and $60 million, and strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as a leading destination in Asia.

This initiative focuses on creating modern, world-class infrastructure while protecting Sri Lanka’s cultural and natural heritage. Planned developments include luxury resorts, eco-friendly hotels, entertainment complexes, and community-based tourism projects that engage local businesses and artisans. Sustainability is central, with investors encouraged to adopt green technologies and environmentally responsible practices.

By increasing opportunities for high-end tourism, Sri Lanka seeks to compete with destinations like Thailand and Malaysia. Popular coastal destinations, where travellers already enjoy stays at Mandara Resort Mirissa and other renowned Mirissa hotels, may see significant benefits as the country reshapes its tourism future.
