The Maldives Records Over A Million Arrivals in 2021 – An Outstanding Success Story

Despite the global pandemic, the Maldives was able to achieve over one million arrivals in 2021 showcasing the nation’s resilience and ability to get tourism back on track. Amongst the key aspects that attracted tourists here was that they could enjoy safe getaways in the Maldives; resort options including the likes of Kurumba Maldives are each located on a private island with minimal contact from outside and stringent health protocols in place.

Following the reopening of its borders as early as July 2020, the country has seen a steady increase in arrivals; this feat was further highlighted when it welcomed its one-millionth visitor for 2021 on the 29th of last October. The top two tourism markets for the country were India and Russia respectively, while more visitors from these nations and others are expected in the months to come. The Maldives also celebrates the golden year of tourism in 2022 to mark the local industry’s 50th anniversary and no doubt another remarkable year lies ahead.
