The first phase of “Island escapes” campaign which was launched in September with the objective of making Sri Lanka as of the best year round holiday destination concluded last month. The campaign officially launched on the 15 of September. The marketing campaign was developed with the help of 18 airlines and 33 destination marketing companies, local hotels and ad agencies. Media reports state that the first leg of the campaign ran successfully from September till November as planned and has exceeded the goal of attracting over 200000 tourists and it is also worth noting that the operation was run with an investment of 65 million Sri Lankan rupees. A number of discounts on flight fares and accommodation on famous resort properties such as Kalutara hotel properties the likes of AVANI Kalutara Resort were also arranged as part of the campaign. The second leg of the project has been planned to commence during May and is expected to last till August next year.
