A Nation United in Devotion: Sri Lanka’s Historic Sacred Tooth Relic Exposition

Two million hearts, one sacred journey.

Sri Lanka recently witnessed its largest-ever religious gathering as the revered ‘Siri Dalada Wandanawa’ concluded at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy. Announced by the Mahanayake Theros of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters, the 10-day exposition—held for the first time in 16 years—drew nearly two million devotees from across the country.

Despite challenges like overcrowding and long queues, the event thrived thanks to a wave of community support. Volunteers and religious groups provided essentials like food, water, and first aid, while local authorities ensured post-event cleanliness throughout the city.

This unprecedented turnout reaffirmed the deep-rooted reverence Sri Lankans hold for the Sacred Tooth Relic. Many pilgrims and visitors sought peaceful hotels in Kandy, Sri Lanka, to unwind after the day’s spiritual observances, with serene hotels like Cinnamon Citadel Kandy offering a quiet contrast to the city’s vibrant energy.

The Mahanayake Theros praised everyone’s efforts, calling it a true reflection of Sri Lanka’s enduring spiritual unity.
