In June this year, CNN Travel focused on some of the ancient attractions in Abu Dhabi which included UNESCO World Heritage Sites, historical forts and archaeological wonders. Amongst these was the church and monastery on Sir Bani Yas Island where one could also stay at a resort in Abu Dhabi; those based at such properties like Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island Al Yamm Villa Resort can visit the Nestorian Christian monastery which is said to date to around 600 A.D. Interestingly, the island is additionally home to the Arabian Wildlife Park where one can see over 17,000 free-roaming animals.
Amongst the other ancient sites in Abu Dhabi featured by CNN Travel were the Al Ain Oasis which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 18th-century Qasr Al Hosn and the Hili Archaeological Park; also mentioned were Maqta Fort and the Jebel Hafit Tombs which are around 5,000 years old.
