All You Need To Know About Sri Lanka Tourism and Health Guidelines

As the third-largest foreign exchange earner in Sri Lanka, the tourism industry was largely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as the country started giving many doses of COVID-19 vaccines to people coupled with strict health guidelines, Sri Lanka saw a drop in cases and reopened tourism on 1st June 2021. Sri Lanka was also one of the first countries in Asia to issue a detailed COVID-19 health protocol for the tourism industry including the introduction of ‘Tourism Bio Bubble’. As the tourism in Sri Lanka is now making a steady recovery, there is good news for international travellers: Fully vaccinated travellers are not required to take pre-departure COVID-19 PCR/ Rapid Antigen tests from 1st March 2022 and can stay at any hotel without taking an on-arrival PCR test. Furthermore, they are not required to quarantine, too. If the traveller is not fully vaccinated or not vaccinated, they can stay in a ‘flexible bio-bubble’ and visit approved tourist sites.
