Recently, the officers from the Digital Economy Promotion Agency in the Phuket branch took part in the ‘Thailand-Japan Collaboration Seminar: Towards Asean Smart City Network Development’ that was held at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel in a sophisticated meeting room in Bangkok. The seminar was about the measures that will be taken to convert cities in Thailand and other cities in Asean into smart cities!
Smart cities, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Prajin Juntong are cities that put modern technology to good use in ways that increase efficiency and reduce expenses and the usage of resources. At the 32nd Asean summit held in Singapore, the leaders discussed and agreed upon the imitative of creating smart cities. This was spotted as an opportunity by JETRO to set up a smart city initiative between Japan and Thailand with the cooperation of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
