An event that brought together some of the world’s best young players, the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2019 took place last month in Kalutara, Sri Lanka. It was hosted by the Sri Lanka Chess Federation and ran from 01st to 10th April 2019 at Citrus Waskaduwa It is expected that such events will also have a positive effect on tourism; this part of the country is already a tourist hotspot home to many Kalutara hotels including properties the likes of Anantara Kalutara Resort.
The Asian Youth Chess Championship 2019 was held under six different age group categories for both boys and girls namely the under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 categories. Along with the Youth Championship, the event also featured the Asian Youth Blitz Chess Championship and the Asian Youth Rapid Championship. Apart from Sri Lanka, other participating countries included China, India, Singapore, Japan, Maldives and Thailand as well as Asia-pacific nations like Australia and New Zealand.
