Australian Government Offers Airfares at Half-Price – Tourism-Reliant Regions Targeted

As part of its initiative to uplift local industries and businesses, the Australian Government announced a subsidy programme in March 2021 whereby airfares would be offered at half price; the chosen destinations were 13 tourism-reliant regions and it will benefit airlines, accommodation providers, travel agents and businesses in the hospitality sector. The government is expecting to offer a total of 800,000 subsidised tickets which amounts to around 46,000 airfares weekly.

This is by no means the first initiative that has been launched to bolster domestic tourism. On 12th March this year, 40,000 vouchers were offered under the Melbourne Travel Voucher Scheme; it gave Victorians a chance to register for a $200 rebate for spending on accommodation, tours or visits to attractions in Victoria’s capital. Domestic travellers can enjoy safe stays at a serviced apartment Melbourne has to offer in the city with properties like Oaks Melbourne on William Suites adopting enhanced sanitisation and health protocols too.
