Ascension Day was celebrated this month in Indonesia as it was by Christian communities around the world. This special day fell on 13th May 2021 and marked the 40th day of Easter; it commemorated what Christians believe as the ascension of Jesus Christ, 39 days following his resurrection. While Indonesia has a majority Muslim population, this is an important day and public holiday too with Catholics and protestants celebrating it.
Amongst the main traditions of Ascension Day in Indonesia is for Christians to attend services at churches such as the Cathedral Church in the capital; those who stayed at service apartments Jakarta has to offer such as Ascott Kuningan Jakarta had the chance to visit churches and participate in these services too. Other traditions connected to this day include visiting and praying beside the graves of family members and ancestors.
