Awesome Achievers – Celebrating Australians of the year

Stories from Australians of the year has been developed specifically as a National Portrait Gallery touring exhibition to regional Australia, with major portraits drawn from the NPG collection and supplemented with works from private and institutional sources. Many examples of triumph over adversity, an inspiring array of achievement, passion, and talent are celebrated in Awesome Achievers and it brings to life the underlying complex and shifting notions of national identity that are exemplified or challenged in the portrait of each person. This year, Awesome Achievers was held in February, at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery and the colourful atmosphere of the art scene attracted people from all walks of life. Many Townsville holiday apartments were chosen by tourists to stay in and Oaks Gateway on Palmer was one of the favourite among visitors to the fair.
