Sanur Beach in Bali turns into a total carnival atmosphere flocked with thousands of local communities from Denpasar descending to celebrate the Bali Kite Festival. The kite flying teams from the region look forward to show off their creations and to fly them high and it is considered more than just a sporting event. The annual event is held during July – August period each year when the winds are considered most favourable for beach kite flying in the area. The starting date of the festival is always determined and announced at fairly short notice based on the weather conditions. Each team consisting of up to 80 people has its own Gamelan ensemble and would fly a giant 4 x 10 metre kite.
