Bangkok Airways is planning to expand its services in 2015 including offering additional flights along with up-gauging flights at both the Thai capital and at Samui which is considered its second largest base. This up-gauging in Samui involved planes being transitioned to A319s from the previously used ATR 72s at Samui Airport. Tourism is one of the main draws to the island and visitors can choose from a wide range of Koh Samui resort accommodation on offer such as Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort & Spa which is amongst the popular options.
At present Samui Airport is also served by SilkAir, Thai Airways and Lucky Air. Bangkok Airways has also been able to expand capacity at this airport over the last 2 years with a 15% to 20% increase with the weekly seats from Samui at the end of December 2014 having reached a number close to 56,000. Also on the cards is an additional flight from Samui to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong.
