Thailand recently hosted a 5-day Pride celebration in Bangkok, solidifying its status as Asia’s rainbow capital. Held from May 31 to June 4 themed around “Celebration of Love,” the festival was a collaborative effort between the government, private sector, and civil organisations.
The event included a parade, public activities, concerts, and the Bangkok Pride Forum. The extended duration demonstrated Thailand’s capability to host large-scale events, such as the 2025 Inter Pride Conference and the 2030 World Pride Parade. The celebration also underscored Thailand’s effort to become the first country in Southeast Asia to legalise same-sex unions, while also raising awareness about LGBTQ+ issues.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin joined the Pride parade on June 1. Last year’s event saw 100,000 participants, and this year welcomed 200,000. The event contributed significantly to Bangkok’s economy, with establishments across the city, including hotels in Bangkok Riverside, such as the Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel, accommodating visitors. Thailand continues to enhance its global reputation as an inclusive and progressive destination through such initiatives.
