BBC Travel Names Sri Lanka One of the Best Places to Travel – Putting the Spotlight On an Island Paradise

In January this year, BBC Travel revealed its guide for “The 25 best places to travel in 2025” and one of the destinations that earned a coveted place on this list was Sri Lanka. This island was put in the spotlight for diverse aspects including its wild elephants, hilltop tea plantations, rolling waves and ancient temples which provide an ideal getaway for travellers. According to BBC Travel, the destinations on its list not only provide unforgettable travel experiences but also use tourism to protect the environment, support local communities or preserve their unique cultural heritage.

When it comes to cultural heritage, Sri Lanka has much to offer especially in its Cultural Triangle area where visitors can stay at luxurious properties like Sigiriya Jungles and visit key UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From such a well-placed Sigiriya hotel, the towering Sigiriya Rock Fortress lies within easy reach as do the ancient cities of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura as well as the Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple. What’s more, travellers here can also go on a safari at the Minneriya National Park to witness “the Gathering” of hundreds of elephants from July to September. With so much on offer, it is little wonder that Sri Lanka has rightfully earned its place as a premier destination to visit this year.
