Big Buddha Temple – Koh Samui’s Biggest Landmark

Also known as Wat Phra Yai, the Big Buddha Temple situated on the Bang Rak Beach is home to a staggering 40 foot high Lord Buddha statue built in 1972.

The temple was built on a small island called Koh Faan which can be reached through a pathway from Koh Samui. 5 star resorts such as the Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort are aplenty in Koh Samui which is convenient for travelers. The island is lined with beaches and is perfect for some relaxation and rejuvenation away from hectic schedules and daily routines.

The Big Buddha Temple is open daily until evening for visiting. Sundays are best avoided due to the large crowds. Sculptures of mythological serpents fringe the stairway leading to the elevation on which the Big Buddha Statue is placed. The dress code requires patrons of the attraction to dress appropriately, covering legs and shoulders.
