Black-necked Crane Season in Bhutan

The Black-necked Crane Season in Bhutan has already begun and will culminate with the Black-necked Crane Festival which will be held on 11th November 2015 at Gangtey Gonpa, Phobjikha. Bhutan is home to some of the rare and exclusive bird species and is considered as a boon to bird-watchers. Bhutan is also famous for migrant bird species travelling long distances across the oceans to its shores for breeding. Black-necked cranes are the best known out of these migrant birds that breed in Tibet and later migrate over the Himalayas to spend the winter season in many isolated valleys of Bhutan as they prefer shallow water pools for roosting. The location where Uma by COMO, Paro, Bhutan is situated is known as a black-necked crane populated area during this season and it is also a popular Bhutan hotel that has special black-necked crane friendly environmental programs.
