On the 28th of September 2022, Xinhuanet reported Botswana’s intentions to rethink tourism into new transformations that will benefit the country’s tourism industry. These will become words of encouragement for hotels such as Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino as well as for tourists hoping to visit and stay over at a hotel in Gaborone to explore and appreciate the land’s natural wonders.
According to Philda Kereng, Minister of Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism of Botswana the livelihoods of the local people were compromised due to job losses. During an address on World Tourism Day, she emphasised the need for smarter and more sustainable tourism strategies to ensure socio-economic welfare, as well as to eliminate poverty in the country. The tourism sector in Botswana is one of the major contributors to the GDP and employs approximately 58,420 workers.
