Boun Ho Khao Padabdine Festival was Held in Laos

The Boun Ho Khao Padabdine Festival was held in Laos on the 18^th of August, 2020. An important event to Laotians, the festival was held on the 14^th day of the waning moon of the ninth month of the Buddhist calendar as has been a tradition for many centuries. Referred to as the “Day of the Dead”, Buddhist all across the country donate to the dead by symbolically providing alms to monks as a gesture of their generosity.

The arrival of the festival is also a call for Laotians to complete their agricultural work and be at peace with themselves. As night falls, special rice cakes made in honour of the festival will be offered to wandering monks. The morning after is a feast day and you’ll hear rousing drum beats emanating from the region’s pagodas calling people to them. Experiencing all this can be a truly memorable time.
