Buffalo Racing Festival, Chonburi

The annual Buffalo racing festival held each October in Chonburi near Bangkok, Thailand is one of the most popular game events in the country where the entire city of Chonburi transforms into a booming carnival atmosphere with similar interest and participation generated among both locals and foreigners. The origins of this famous event dates back to the time when the farmers from all over Chonbury Province would gather at the local temple to offer alms to monks and to sell the produce to the villagers and town folk at the end of the Rains Retreat also known as the end of Buddhist Lent or Awk Phansa. Since they arrive to the Chonbury city with their farm buffaloes, the races began as a way of filling their idle time to engage in having some fun and socializing with the community.

However, due to the immense popularity of the races, it eventually evolved into a two week annual festival where people travel from nearby Bangkok and Pattaya. Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villa Resort & Spa stands out as one of the best and luxurious accommodation facilities among the Koh Phangan Resorts for visiting travelers to experience a perfect and comfortable stay during this festival time.
