The century old Tha Phra Railway station in Khon Kaen, Thailand is one of the hundreds of depots which are at risk of being demolished by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) under the country’s “Double track development” plan. It’s reported that the Mayor of Tha Phra is currently holding talks with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to purchase this 100-year old railway station for a massive makeover. The move to convert this quaint old railway station into a learning centre is hugely being criticized by the public and professionals from various disciplines. Tourists and locals who are based at hotels and resorts in Khon Kaen such as the AVANI Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Center and are in search of things to do in Khon Kaen can make a visit to Tha Phra Railway station before it gets demolished. However, the local community has responded immensely and are in the process of raising funds to develop the vicinity of this picturesque railway station.
