Cambodia and Sri Lanka Sign MoU on Tourism – A Move to Encourage More Travellers

In May this year, Cambodia and Sri Lanka signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to facilitate tourism cooperation between each other. It was signed by the Sri Lankan ambassador to Cambodia, Chaminda Colonne, and the Cambodian Minister of Tourism, Dr. Thong Khon. Amongst the objectives were to begin direct flights since presently, no airline provides a direct connection between the two. Additionally, Sri Lanka and Cambodia have agreed to organise events promoting Buddhist tourism which would attract Buddhist devotees from both countries.

While the tourism industry of these two destinations faced many challenges due to the pandemic, they are looking to get back on track with the reopening of their respective borders. Sri Lanka continues to offer quarantine-free holidays and visiting Cambodians looking to enjoy the island’s famed south coast can stay at a boutique hotel in Mirissa Sri Lanka; this includes ‘Safe & Secure’ certified properties like The Beach House which has strict health and hygiene measures in place too.
