Canada Is Trying To Rebuild Its Tourism Industry: Diversifying The Sector

Following the pandemic and its significant decrease in tourist numbers, Canada is seeking new solutions to revitalise the industry, primarily through diversifying experiences. The government is encouraging long-haul travel plans and less popular destinations, particularly among international visitors, to showcase the diverse locations and attractions of Canada.

Notably, the North American nation is hoping to attract visitors with a blended focus on its natural landscapes and indigenous heritage. Local indigenous tour operators in Ontario, for instance, are leading walks and excursions across the mountains and islands, tracing ancestral routes and current life in the communities. Meanwhile, hotels in Whistler BC are also introducing heritage-centred experiences in addition to resort amenities and nature-based excursions, such as with Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside.

However, the industry faces certain challenges it must address before moving forward, which the government plans to acknowledge via its new tourism initiative dubbed “A World Of Opportunities”.
