Building a resilient port network for sustainable growth and global competitiveness
Sri Lanka’s maritime sector could unlock greater opportunities through a balanced multi-port development strategy, according to the Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents (CASA). While the Port of Colombo continues to strengthen its position as a leading transshipment hub, CASA believes that complementary investments in Trincomalee and Hambantota can enhance capacity, diversify cargo operations, and improve long-term resilience.
The industry body noted that expanding infrastructure, improving digital connectivity, and fostering strategic partnerships could reinforce the country’s competitiveness amid evolving global shipping trends. It also highlighted the potential to strengthen services such as bunkering in Sri Lanka, alongside ship repair, energy logistics, and regional cargo distribution.
As the maritime landscape continues to evolve, businesses across the sector, including Advantis, may benefit from a more integrated and future-ready port network designed to support trade growth, operational efficiency, and Sri Lanka’s strategic position on key international shipping routes.
