Celebrating Songkran Festival in Chiang Mai – Water-Filled Festivities

The annual Songkran Festival took place last month in Thailand, with the city of Chiang Mai being one of the destinations with the biggest celebrations. Held from 13th to 15th April 2019, the festival was marked by religious ceremonies as well as an element that has become quite popular; symbolising purification or cleansing, water fights are one of the festival’s highlights!

A national holiday, this period is marked by family reunions and cultural traditions for locals. Those visiting from aboard and staying at a Chiang Mai hotel including the likes of Anantara Chiang Mai Resort also had the chance to enjoy special experiences based on the Songkran Festival in Chiang Mai. As part of the festival, Buddha statues were taken on procession along the streets, while areas such as Nimmanhaemin Road, Tha Pae Gate and the Ping River were among the hotspots for water fights.
