An annual event held to honour the City Pillar in Chiang Mai, the 2019 Inthakin Festival drew to a close this month. The opening rites took place on 30th May while the festival ran up to 6th June. The focal point of the event was at Wat Chedi Luang, a temple located within a 10 minute drive from Anantara Chiang Mai Serviced Suites; easy to reach for those staying at a hotel or residence Chiang Mai has to offer close to the Old City area, the temple houses the City Pillar that dates back to the 13th century.
During the Inthakin Festival in Chiang Mai, those visiting Wat Chedi Luang engaged in a merit-making rite that included placing joss sticks, candles and flowers at the City Pillar Shrine. As part of the festival, cultural performances, games and food stalls were to be found outside the temple and lent to the charm of the event.
