China – Maldives Connection – Free Trade Agreement

Maldives is an archipelago of approximately 1200 islands in the Indian Ocean and is situated 700kms from Lakshadweep island chain in India. Those who are planning to holiday in this county must ensure to reserve their stay in a place the likes of Adaaran Club Rannalhi which offers close proximity to many Maldives places to visit.

The Maldives entered into its first Free Trade Agreement with China on the 8th December 2017 during Abdulla Yameen, the Maldivian President’s four-day visit to Beijing. Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in addition to the Free Trade Agreement. Other Pacts signed during the visit will extend bilateral cooperation in a myriad of fields including tourism, technology, climate change and health. China stated that under the FTA, Maldives would minimize the tariffs of over 95% of the goods to zero.
