China-Thailand Railway on Track – A Convenient & Fast Connection on Offer

As reported on the Bangkok Post website on 5th January 2023, the China-Thailand Railway project which will feature a high-speed train service is on track; this line when fully completed will provide a link from Thailand to China via Laos. While there were some delays in the project, the Department of Rail Transport has stated that the lessons learned during the first phase will help for faster and smoother operations in the next phase. The first part of this project between the Thai and Chinese governments commenced on 21st December 2017 and has been proceeding in stages. While the first-phase construction is ongoing, the second phase is expected to be proposed for cabinet approval in early 2023.

The first section when completed sometime in 2026 will connect the Nakhon Ratchasima province and Bangkok and when operational, it will cut down travel time from over four hours to more than one hour. This will make the Thai capital easier to access and visitors can conveniently find accommodation for business or leisure at a hotel in Bangkok city center. These include properties like Jono Bangkok Asok which will stand to benefit from more travelers heading to the capital due to the high-speed train service.
