Being home to a large Chinese community the Chinese New Year is celebrated in Koh Phangan with much grandeur. Every year Chinese people along with the people of Koh Phangan gather at the temple to celebrate the New Year. The event also consists of many rituals and performances with fire. People also walk on firebeds to release their Karma. This year was the year of the monkey which has a deep connection to Buddhism. Reports also state that tourists who were stationed at Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas which is a Hotel in Koh Phangan located close to the temple also participated in the festivities.
