Chinese Tourist Arrivals Go Up in Sri Lanka – Tourism Making its Way Back to Recovery

On the 2nd of March 2023, the first group of Chinese leisure travellers stepped into Sri Lanka after a prolonged period of the COVID-19 pandemic. They were warmly welcomed by Sri Lankan Airlines along with the Tourism Minister Harin Fernando, and State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tharaka Balasooriya.  Chinese authorities relaxed the travel restrictions for outbound travel only recently, and the tourism of several countries was severely affected by these numbers.

Sri Lanka takes pride in being one of the first 20 countries to resume their outbound tourism with China and expects around 5000 Chinese arrivals to the country during 2023. If you’re visiting Sri Lanka, make sure to visit popular destinations such as Mirissa, Galle, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Kalutara. Beach hotels such as the famous Turyaa Kalutara offer the best hospitality to tourists during their stay.
