Chinese Tourists Boost Maldives Tourism: A Tropical Comeback

Chinese tourists are returning to the Maldives in large numbers, with 202,000 Chinese visitors in 2024, representing 15% of total arrivals. The Maldives aims to reach two million tourists by the end of the year, with 1.3 million already recorded. Besides China, other top contributors include Russia (150,000 tourists), the UK (120,000), Italy (102,000), and Germany (97,000).

Despite a 14% increase in August 2024, early September saw a slight 3% decline in arrivals. The Maldivian government is focusing on attracting more Indian tourists, with 83,000 Indian visitors so far, aiming to make India one of the top three source countries by year-end. With its stunning beaches and luxury resorts like Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort, renowned as the best Maldives resort for families, the Maldives remains a top destination for travellers worldwide.
