Church Fiesta – Celebration of Faith

Known as “Little Rome” for its high number of Roman Catholic churches, Negombo in Sri Lanka has a community that is very much intertwined with the Catholic faith. In January each year what is known as a Church Fiesta takes place giving visitors a chance to enjoy a unique insight into the faith of the people and the many traditions followed at these churches. Those visiting during this period and in search of Sri Lanka beach resorts in the region from which to head to the fiesta can consider staying at Club Hotel Dolphin.

One of the most popular festivals in Negombo, the Church Fiesta features a range of festivities be it musical performances or colourful carnivals that help bring the community together. There are many churches that can be found in the town, some of historic value since they date back to the time of the Portuguese.
