In a bid to highlight the country’s biodiversity, Sri Lanka Tourism launched the innovate Couch Safari wildlife streaming sessions from 4th to 13th November 2020. It gave viewers across the world, many of whom cannot travel due to COVID-19 restrictions, a chance to witness some of the wonders of the wilds of Sri Lanka. The live streaming covered key national parks namely Minneriya, Udawalawe, Kaudulla and Yala; hotel properties can be found right beside such parks including the likes of Cinnamon Wild Yala which provide travellers with a chance to see this wildlife for themselves on thrilling safaris.
The Couch Safari which was hosted by wildlife experts, photographers and biologists was streamed live on social media platforms and a dedicated website as well as Boxcast, Roku TV, Apple TV and Periscope channels. By the end of November alone, it had more than 1.7 million video views and over 22 million impressions, while generating in excess of 40,000 clicks.
