As one of the most touted development plans of 2016, the extension of the Dubai canal is set to transform the area into a premier recreational hotspot. The canal will be extended a further 3.2km from to reach Arabian Gulf from the Business Bay.
The initiative will not only benefit Dubai hotels near the airport and other hospitality hubs the likes of the AVANI Deira Dubai Hotel but will also create revenue for the tourist boats, water bound taxis and abras operating in the creek. Tourists would be able to complete a tour of the canal in its entirety and enjoy the sights including Downtown Dubai as well as Burj Khalifa. Waterfront residences and other development projects including the Creekside Culture Village are some of the benefits of the extension. Stakeholders believe the plans will not only create investments for the area but also create a niche tourist market for cities in Dubai.
